In part one we spoke about the history of cravats, how they originated and morphed into custom ties. in part 2, I discussed more of the history and some of the psychology behind custom ties or cravats as they were called in those days.
In part 3, I discussed the way in which cravats were made in the 1700’s compared to how custom ties are made or manufactured by tie makers or tie manufacturers these days.
In part 4, I expanded on the make up of custom ties in comparison to the original construction of cravats by the Croat soldiers.
In part 5, I continue with this discussion relating to how modern day custom ties and custom scarves are made, what fabric is required, the print type used, and generally benefits as opposed to for example woven ties as opposed to printed ties.
The process has become polished and will continue to do so- the strides that have been made in recent years for example of making it easier to sublimate fabrics is significant now as compared to say 20 or 30 years ago where huge sophisticated equipment was required in order to achieve pretty much the same effect that can now be achieved in an easier and more straightforward manner than ever before.
So as I have said, in order to make good quality printed ties or custom ties that are sublimated, we need good fabric which consists mainly of a tightly woven polyester fabric manufactured specifically to be used for sublimation but also for many types of garments other than custom ties or custom scarves which by the way use a different type of polyester fabric simply because a more rigid fabric is required for mens custom ties as opposed to ladies custom scrves which require fabrics with a looser weave that have some stretch or give in the fabric and are generally comfortable to wear around the neck.
Once this fabric for the custom ties and custom scarves has been printed, the process of cutting the fabric happens in order for manufacturing purposes.
It is important to understand that it is rarely that custom scarves for example are not printed in ones but very often in 2’s or 4’s or as we call them- sets.
Likewise, custom ties will be printed across the width of the fabric giving two times two ties or 4 in total across the width.
These custom ties and custom scarves are then cut from the fabric. The scarves are stitched along the edges to leave a smart finish either folded or rolled over.
Custom ties are cut and then go through a process of being manufactured using various different pieces of machinery and some very capable people using them to enable the custom ties to be made up.
The whole process is quite involved but the long and short really is that it is extremely important to use high quality fabrics and trims in order to make good quality custom ties and custom scarves.
