School ties, also falling under an umbrella description falling under custom ties are probably one of the oldest and most consistent forms of custom ties one will ever find.

School ties exist for a number of reasons, not least of all to identify the wearer as belonging to a specific group or organisation being obviously, the school they attend.

For hundreds of years, school ties, custom ties made for schools have been in existence to further enhance the overall status and importance of schools and to this day they continue to do the same thing, simply put, school ties are the main stay of the school uniform.

One could compare school ties to corporate ties or company ties as when one consider the two different custom ties, one realises that they are both there to do the same thing and what is this? lets discuss.

First of all there are many different types of custom ties, I can name but a few being club ties, promotional ties, branded ties, even matric ties and sports ties aswell as those previously discussed being corporate ties and company ties and all of these ties from a more formal perspective exist to serve more than one purpose.

So earlier on, I spoke about custom ties in any form promoting an awareness of belonging or a feeling of belonging by the wearer. From a human psychological perspective, the need to belong and be part of something is for the majority of people one of the most important aspects of their being or existence. To belong is everything, to be an island, very difficult and even for those who want to be an island, I would suggest that this is also undertaken with difficulty simply because it’s a natural leaning for humans to want to be wanted and to want to belong.

The whole point of wearing any types of custom ties, whether corporate ties or club ties or matric ties, sports ties etc is to reinforce the feeling of belonging to a group of not always like minded individuals who have something very important in common.

After all, whether its school of work, we spend most of our time there interacting with our associates or work colleagues or school mates doing one thing or another but from a school perspective, mostly creating memories.

The other important aspect of wearing custom ties of any form other than fashion ties which are also custom ties is to create a feeling of recognition, so belonging and recognition are both important spin offs of belonging to any group or organisation.

The fact that we choose to celebrate or recognise this by wearing custom ties of one sort or another or for that matter custom scarves such as corporate scarves is all part of the concept.

So one realises that there is a lot more to a school tie than meets the eye, it goes way beyond just being a long piece of fabric structured into custom ties.
