Whether its corporate ties, branded ties, custom school ties, matric ties and matric tie designs, company ties, printed ties, woven ties, sports ties or bobby knot ties, even striped school ties made by tie suppliers who may or may not be tie manufacturers or tie makers, it is immaterial, all ties are custom ties.

By custom ties I mean a tie or a scarf for that matter- custom scarves or custom scarf as they are very often referred to in South Africa fall very much under the same banner as custom ties simply because they are made in the same factories and very often printed by the same printer.

I am of course referring to printed ties and printed scarves and not woven ties and of course as I have explained in many of my previous blogs, custom scarves cannot be made from woven fabric simply because the back part of the fabric does not lend itself to being the other side of a scarf and also, woven fabric in itself is generally heavy, so to sew two pieces of fabric together so that both sides of a woven scarf would look acceptable would not really work as the scarf would then be way to heavy, way too thick and also would not be flexible enough to be tied around the neck, it would be too stiff and not easy to work with , would look too bulky and too uncomfortable and believe me, it would be uncomfortable.

In my opinion, the only time 2 pieces of woven fabric should be sewn together is in order to create a cushion or pillow for furniture.

So having clarified that, it is also important to note that branded socks and corporate socks are also custom socks, and equally, as with custom ties and custom scarves, each sock made is by definition a custom sock.

So what do I mean when I use the terms custom ties, custom scarves, custom socks etc- let me explain.

Custom refers to something that is made especially- for a reason or a purpose and in fact the dictionary definition of custom-made is “made or done for a particular customer” which in turn means that each and every item such as custom ties, custom scarves, custom socks that is classified as custom made means that that particular item is uniquely created for a specific individual or purpose for example one may decide to buy a Springbok rugby tie in celebration of the fact that they have done well, won a tournament or simply that you just love the team and so decide to show that by purchasing custom ties or custom scarves in honour of that particular item.

In order for one to purchase such an item, one expects for these particular custom ties (sports ties) or custom scarves  should be branded in such a way that they indicate very strongly the reason for their having been manufactured in the first place.
