There is on one hand a huge difference between school scrolls and school ties which are custom ties.

And on the other hand there are huge similarities between the two items.

The reasons for this are quite complex but also quite clear.

School scrolls are handed out generally  for achievements and are attached to the blazer on a permanent basis. Thet are there to show peers the achievements of a certain individual.

School scrolls do more than this though because although they are there for achievement purposes, they also have the effect of motivating younger learners to achieve the same thing.

Once an inspired learner sees the school scrolls on a blazer, not all, but many are inspired to achieve the same thing.

Many are not of course, this is the way of the world- some will and some wont, some aspire and some don’t and as we know, it is always the minority that do.

The law of 80/20, which is rarely wrong by the way, states that 80% will or wont and likewise, 20% also will or wont depending on the action or intention.

So this is a great spin off that the earning of school scrolls has a duplicate meaning- one to achieve self satisfaction or achievement and the second to inspire others to also do the same thing.

School scrolls are also good for the school in that a learner wearing a school blazer in a public area such as a shopping centre is more likely to get someone’s attention with a blazer full of school scrolls than not- I think we have all seen this from time to time.

School ties which are custom ties on the other hand can also achieve the same effect especially if they are meant for something specific for example matric ties, 1^st team ties, club ties, achievement ties etc.

There are many different types of custom ties and to mention a few- printed ties, corporate ties, company ties, branded ties, promotional ties, woven ties and these are all custom ties but some of them can indicate an achievement as I have said such as club ties or 1^st team ties or matric ties and this is where the similarity comes in between school scrolls and school ties, custom school ties that is. Simply because matric ties  or club ties for example can achieve the same effect as school scrolls in that when a person who doesn’t have it sees it, they may want it and so will become inspired to achieve it. Likewise, when a younger person sees it, they are often inspired at a young age to rise to the occasion and also at some part of their lives, be wearing that club tie for example.

I suppose, the idea of a young school boy rugby player seeing a springbok rugby player dressed in his blazer and tie would inspire the same thing in a much bigger way.
