This is such a good topic because most people don’t realise the importance of custom ties, corporate ties, company ties and school ties, not to mention corporate scarves over the years in the corporate and schools environment of south and southern Africa.
Lets start with the corporate history of Ties South Africa, this is a really good place to start.
Corporate ties in the form of custom ties goes back at least 50 years and more to when Ties South Africa started to become a significant entity in the form of uniform and gifting in the South African corporate market place.
At one point and I refer to the early seventies right up to the early nineties, most companies that were in a position to do so were ordering corporate ties or custom ties aswell as corporate scarves and even corporate jewellery.
This was at the time, before corporate gifting in the form of promotional items became the norm which probably started during the late eighties in any kind of big way that everyone wanted corporate ties, custom ties, corporate scarves and corporate scarves.
It was a prestigious gift to give being bespoke made for exclusively for one client. In other words, no 2 designs were the same, no copying was allowed or took place. If a company or institution ordered custom ties or corporate scarves or corporate jewellery, each item was exclusive as much by the logo differentiation as much as anything else.
Clients clamoured for their new custom ties or corporate scarves and often companies would do them in a series so for example every year, often at the end of the year as a Christmas gift, clients would receive a new and revised design of the corporate tie with a new theme.
Some customers went as far as to collect these custom ties and keep them as mementoes.
I remember very clearly, one of our clients doing this very thing and saying to me how the clients started asking for their new custom ties way before December!!
And I have to tell you that corporate jewellery was a huge addition to this particular item. I would go so far as to sat that corporate jewellery item was valued way beyond custom ties or corporate scarves mainly because the value perception of corporate jewellery was much higher.
Ties South Africa is such an interesting subject because apart from corporate ties which were such a huge success in South Africa and to a much smaller degree are still really successful in certain environments such as banks etc but I feel I need to say something about school ties because although school ties are also custom ties made exclusively for a specific school, they carry huge importance as far as Ties South Africa is concerned because of such things as school recognition and tradition.
In fact, these days, school ties are by far the biggest entity of Ties South Africa and these custom made ties from the looks of things will never die.
