You may be wondering what on earth I am talking about when I ask this question but when it comes to custom ties and keep in mind that its only really custom ties in the form of corporate ties or promotional ties, branded ties, club ties, matric ties, printed ties and woven ties that are included in this discussion and not custom scarves or corporate scarves or corporate socks or any items falling within the range or ambit of corporate jewellery.
So the reason why I am discussing this topic today is because its been one that’s long been on my mind and also includes the likes of tie makers or tie manufacturers because they are the ones who at the end of the day are solely responsible for how custom ties will look once made up- the same also goes for custom scarves but the fact is that the dimensions have never really changed over the years- perhaps one can say that at one point there was a move towards very large meter plus by meter plus scarves which was largely brought on by some of the fashion houses, perhaps Hermes being one who went through a period of offering very large square scarves, very luminous in design and very beautiful to the eye and the feel and that’s why they and others similar to them were so very famous.
Anyway, I digress, let me get back to the subject at hand which really involves custom ties, corporate ties, company ties aswell as the actual tie makers or tie manufacturers and how they make the ties when it comes to calling custom ties regular or not regular.
I suppose, if one considers custom ties as being a standard part of fashion then it would make sense that just as paisley designs go in and out of fashion, so do wide ties or thin ties and that’s what I am really getting at in todays discussion.
So currently, we have a 2 fold preference for custom ties and the width. The older more established individual in general still prefers a wider 8 cm to 9 cm width whilst the younger crowd prefers what is commonly known as a skinny tie which can be anything from 4cm in width up to 7.5cm in width.
The issue with skinny ties when it comes to corporate ties is that one loses a lot of branding opportunity especially the narrower the tie becomes and it becomes difficult at a point for the logo to be significantly represented on a skinny tie as opposed to a wider tie and for this reason the vast majority of custom ties when it comes to corporate ties or company ties are still made at an average width of around 9cm.
One could say it looks more professional and another may say it looks old fashioned and quite frankly neither would be wrong.
I don’t think we have quite reached the stage where corporate ties are generally skinny ties but hey, who knows?
