Is Custom made really unique? That’s today’s question or topic and one that I have been pondering on for a while.

So the definition of custom made is as follows- “Made or done to order for a particular customer”

The definition of unique is as follows- “Being the only one of its kind, unlike anything else”

Please note that both of these reference are from the Oxford dictionary.

So lets look at the definition of custom made with regards to custom ties and custom scarves and in fact any tie or scarf- it could also be corporate ties, corporate scarves, corporate socks, corporate jewellery, could be company ties, branded ties, printed ties or woven ties,

It could also refer to promotional ties, club ties, matric tie designs, or even bobby knot ties.

It can also refer to school badges and school scrolls.

“Made or done to order for a particular customer” can refer to either a company or a school in our case and for the purpose of this discussion simply because, these are the 2 main areas of our business focus.

So when corporate ties or company ties are manufactured for a specific client, they are designed specifically with that company in mind, no other company- so therefore, no other design would suit that company because it wouldn’t contain colours or branding relating to that particular organisation.

Once designed and approved, with the client having approved a one of a kind design, the corporate ties or corporate scarves will then go to the tie maker or tie manufacturer for completion- to be made up into this unique item(one can see how the word unique comes into the discussion all the time when referring to this definition.

The process the tie manufacturer or tie makers complete to produce the corporate ties is not unique, only the design itself is unique.

Like wise, the definition of unique “being the only one of its kind, unlike anything else” also refers to an item that is specially made for a particular client which is the definition of custom-made.

When it comes to school ties, matric ties , or even club ties because lets face it, belonging to a school rugny team for example is pretty much like belonging to a club team, the most important elements withing the tie generally are the colours- why do I say this? Because, when one looks at  the general school tie, one finds that the majority of them are stripes- no logo, nothing to point towards the school itself and so we rely on the colours, the school colours to determine the school if there is no school logo.

One school that comes to mind in all of this is Jeppe Boys and Jeppe Girls- the ties are quite simple but absolutely unique- no other school has this and its white and black stripes.

There may be other schools using white and black stripes but not in the formast used by these 2 wonderful schools.
