In this world of high fashion where everything is bulk made and little detail is paid to specifics the way it was at one time, the one thing that hasn’t really changed over time is the making of custom ties and custom scarves by a tie maker or tie manufacturer.
The reason for this is that it is difficult to take short cuts and leave out processes when it come to the tie maker and his job at hand.
At the end of the day, custom ties still need to stay straight when held downwards by the thin end of the tie, they still need to have the correct lining and they need to be sewn properly otherwise they will fall apart.
When it comes to the tie maker or tie manufacturers, there are not a huge number of steps involved in the making of a tie, it is just imperative that the item is made properly.
With other types of clothing over the years, manufacturers have found ways of short cutting the process and although essentially, the process is similar to what it was 30 or 40 years ago, the intricacy of a garment has reduced and not nearly as much time is spent in the manufacture of a garment.
A tie maker has to ensure all of the above steps I mentioned in order to produce a reliable product. This can be done all by hand or by using equipment such as a liebe machine which helps immensely to speed up the process for the tie maker and at the end of the day, using a leibe machine does improve the overall presentation of custom ties however, many factories work only by hand and they still manage to make a fine custom tie.
With many other items such as corporate socks for example corporate sock or branded socks the process has also become a lot more refined over the years simply because the machinery used to knit branded socks has become so much more enhanced and efficient.
These days the emphasis is on speed and exactness and this continues to play a big part in the success or a tie maker.
Tie manufacturers rely on speed and agility of their staff to ensure that enough custom ties and corporate scarves are made in a day to ensure profitability.
The lot of a tie maker is similar to any other manufacturer in a way because I use the term duck or no dinner which essentially means that the tie maker is either full ip or has little work. this can be frustrating and stressful to say the least.’
Stressful financially when there is not enough work and stressful when there is too much work that needs to go out quickly with due by dates that are sometimes not easy to achieve.
There are other examples of different factories that face the same challenges, one being for example a factory that manufactures corporate jewellery or even school scrolls because I would imagine that these types of operations face the same challenges.
