Tie manufacturers are quite a rare breed of people these days.
Many tie manufacturers combine their operations with making other types of clothing items that may or may not have synergy between each other.
Its not the easiest thing in the world to run more than one line in a clothing factory but when it comes to combining tie manufacturers together with other clothing item such as sock manufacturers, it can become quite a challenge to say the least.
The secret I would say to being a good tie manufacturer is to understand that there is never a consistent supply of work, in fact, there is always too little or too much.
One of the reasons for this is because of school ties which are custom ties, the same as company ties and corporate ties are also custom ties.
School ties however, are seasonal, so the demand varies from month to month or should I say season to season.
School striped ties for example are mostly worn in winter, with the winter uniform so the season for a tie manufacturers perspective is the middle to end of summer when school ties are ordered for the new winter uniform.
One of the very special qualities about tie manufacturers is that they have a very specific item to make which requires a huge amount of expertise.
I am not saying that any form of clothing doesn’t require expertise because it does but custom ties and custom scarves for that matter, require a lot of precision and know how to manufacture.
I include custom scarves in this discussion simply because any tie manufacturer also makes custom scarves or for that matter, corporate scarves, it just part of what they do.
Custom scarves are really an interesting and important area of neckwear because they not only compliment custom ties or corporate ties and company ties in a corporate market place but they are quite specific as a ladies fashion element of their uniform.
I would say rather more so than men who are quite happy to wear most items when it comes to corporate wear.
Schools generally don’t have ladies custom scarves as its not really a part of the school uniform although we have, on occasion made custom scarves for schools with the last order being for the older girls as a leaving gift to be worn in matric and then taken with them which I found really interesting.
Ladies custom scarves actually originate from a similar point to mens custom ties, this is because in the Great War, Croats wore neck ties which later became known as custom scarves or cravats.
The neck ties almost resembled ladies custom scarves as they were tied around the neck, air hostess style, and were in many different colours to signify the group or battalion to which the men belonged.
I would go so far as to say that these items were not manufactured by tie manufacturers or scarf manufacturers although, who knows?!!
